If you have needed a dental crown in the past, you may remember needing to make two office visits. During the first visit, the dentist would take an impression of your tooth and fit you with a temporary crown. Then, you would have to wait a week or more while your permanent crown was created in a dental lab. During that time, you would have to watch what you ate and protect the temporary crown from damage.
At our office, waiting for your permanent crown has become a thing of the past! We use CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology to create and place a same-day dental crown in just one easy visit with our dentist. During your visit, our dentist will:
- Examine the tooth
- Remove any decayed or damaged tooth material
- Use digital imaging to create a 3D model of your tooth
- Use that model to mill your crown from a block of material, such as porcelain or zirconia, right in our office
Once the crown is ready, our dentist will check its fit and cement it in place. Then, we will polish it to ensure that it blends in with the rest of your smile.
